You may be able to receive a one-time payment for your utility bill if you meet income guidelines. IMPACT will help you apply for the benefit through the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP). Assistance level depends on income level, family size, the type of fuel you use to heat your home, and other factors. If you heat your home with liquid propane (LP), you can qualify to receive a delivery of propane through this program. If you have received a disconnection notice, or if you are disconnected from your power source, we may have funding to assist you. Please read below for more information on how to contact us and apply for Crisis assistance.
When Can I Apply?
We will begin accepting early applications for LIHEAP starting October 1st, 2020. To qualify for an early application you must meet at least 1 of the following criteria:
Over 60 years of age
Household member that is disabled
An emergency situation (disconection, disconnection notice, broken furnace, etc.)
LIHEAP applications will be accepted starting November 1st, 2020 for all interested applicants.

Weatherization is a program established to help reduce the heating and cooling costs for low-income persons, particularly the elderly, disabled, and children, by improving the energy efficiency of their homes, thereby reducing the household's energy bills. This component works to tighten and insulate homes against the elements and to assure the safety of appliances by providing health and safety checks, appliance replacement, home insulation, minor repairs, and client education. IMPACT partners with Polk County Public Works and Mid-Iowa Community Action to provide Weatherization services to all of our service counties.
If your furnace has stopped working, please contact your local IMPACT resource center to submit an application for a furnace repair or replacement. IMPACT partners with Polk County Public Works and Mid-Iowa Community Action to provide Weatherization services to all of our service counties.
